Feels of a Fangirl {Doctor Who Edition}

                via
Oh. My. Gosh.

First of all, 71 days until the 50th anniversary!!!!
                    via

Second of all, HUGE shout-out to Samara for decorating our condo last night in honor of Ten! We had the TARDIS and glasses and images of Tennant's beautiful face and chocolate and oh yeah the Doctor Who soundtrack playing!!!! She's the best :)

Despite all that, this was me going into last night, knowing that Ten's time was limited.

                                                                via
And this is how I watched the vast majority of "The End of Time" although my mascara doesn't fall half as nicely as Rose's does.

Ten, you're my favorite. Thank you for every single episode, every laugh, every tear, and every "Allons-y!"

I heart heart you.

                         via

You see, while I was determined to keep an open mind about Eleven, I felt like this about him:
Skeptical. Concerned. Nervous he would never be as amazing as Ten. Distrustful, even.

But before "The End of Time" even finished, I knew that I would love Eleven. Not as much as Ten, of course, but enough. The next 3 seasons are going to be amazing, I'm sure.

                                             via
Here's to a great new adventure, Eleven! Geronimo!

Brain Blip

You know it's a Monday when...

...you go to type "brain blip" as your title and type "brian" instead....yep

I totes had a post planned for Friday, and it was going to be really funny! But alas, I started working on a project for Victoria {ok guys, for realz- she's amazing, she's my friend, and I sometimes get to work with her! Totes fun!} and the Funny Friday post just didn't happen. Sorry, peeps.

So instead of posting about something deep and intense and serious, I'll be trying out something called "7 Quick Takes" which means you get to read my mind in 7 areas....more realistically, I'll be sharing my thoughts about 7 random things, and when you put the number in the heading, it makes it not random but official and bloggy-sounding. So there. Beat that with a stick. Except I don't know if I'll make it to 7...this is so totally a Monday, it's not even funny. But I'll do my best to overcome.

1. Anyone know any good ways to take off nail polish and get EVERYTHING off? Is there some natural way to do it, or some magic cotton balls you have to use to get it all off? Please share your secrets!

2. Wow, that was a lame #1. What a start we are off to... and now I better think of something quick so #2 doesn't flop also....deodorant is the only thing that comes to mind, so I guess we're going for a hardcore belly flop. Go big or go home.

3. Mom and I have watched 3 episodes of Call the Midwife, Season 2. Augh! So many changes! I won't divulge spoilers, but if you're watching, let me know where in the season you are!

4. Oh yeah, so that totes British takeover post last week? I really don't know how I left off Doctor Who... well, I do. I'm trying to save my episodes and find other things to fill my time {hence, CTM and other British shows that are not as emotionally involved}. But seriously...David Tennant. Totes adorbs.

Butforrealztho....oh yeah, AJ, he's Scottish, complete with accent :D

5. How to compete with David Tennant? Let's not even try and purposely aim low. My bestie and I went to Target yesterday and bought a tea towel for our future place together. No, we don't have a place yet. Yes, we bought it anyway. We bought the teal one with forks, because we're mature like that.

6. My friend Dahlia is having a birthday party this weekend. So exciting! I got something for her last night at Target, but of course I can't say what.
I did warn her that I might buy this for her....she begged me not to, but I may not be able to help myself :)
If you think im cute you should see my aunt Do you wanna be my Uncle Onesie Baby Bodysuit Romper Creeper or Shirt cute baby gift under 20
buy it for Dahlia here source

7. Just found this on face.book. Pretty much sums up today.

Happy Monday!

True Confessions/Obsessions on Thursday

Some days, you just gotta spill your guts. These are not deep and intense thoughts; these are silly, random, obscure thoughts that just keep popping into my head at work and need to be shared somehow while not disturbing productivity. So here we go.
  • Since returning from my beloved Kentucky, I've been unable to bring myself to wear "real" shoes. Sandals or nothing. Seriously. Oh, and here in the great Northwest, it has been raining almost constantly and has warmed up to a mediocre 65* average. But sandals it is!
  • Have you guys heard of Veggie Straws??? They are made by Sensible Portions and I l o v e them. They give me the salty and crunchy fix that chips provide, yet they are made from vegetables and one serving size is 38 straws. Yep. Crunch away, friends! These things are delish. I'm in love.

                                    source
  • Can we talk about Call the Midwife again? Butforrealztho. My mom and I just finished the first season {her first time seeing it} and we are ready to begin Season Two! So exciting! Some friends have said that "something big happens" and I'm really excited/nervous to watch.

                                         source
  • And while we're on the subject of British shows, have you heard of "Miranda" before? Seriously one of the funniest shows out there. "Chummy" in CTM is played by Miranda Hart, a comedian and writer of this "semi-autobiographical" show. She is hysterical. Her sense of timing, her awkwardness, her comical situations- they all fit into this adorable show.

                                              source
    Warning: "Miranda" has some innuendos and/or conversations that are not suitable for children. But it is not the focus of the show, and it is conversation only. {Exception: one episode in S2 tries to be inappropriate, but again, it's conversation and intent only, and it's played for laughs.}
Anyway, she is so funny; the females of my family squish onto the couch and watch it from a laptop and would be rolling on the floor laughing if we weren't wedged onto the couch so well. Def a fave.
  • Save the Storks. I love everything about this group. Their tactic is to first offer help to abortion-minded women, and then provide them with information and resources. It's wonderful. Check them out at the link below the picture.

                                    Save the Storks
  • Confession: I watched "Star Trek: Into Darkness." Yes, I'm a nerd. But not for the reasons you're thinking. I watched it because of Benedict...*swoon* Confession: I'm obsessed. Seriously. Cheekbones. Gah. {And yes, that is a Sherlock reference too...see what kind of a nerd I am!?!?} There are probably dozens of other pictures I could have posted, but I will use self-control and only post one.

                                                             source

Is there anything that can follow up after Benedict? Nope. So I will leave you with the image of Ben...

The Lion King

As promised, here is the post that describes my fun and amazing time at The Lion King.

First of all, what would a great theater date be without a great dinner beforehand? So, L and I went to Chick-fil-A for dinner. Heck yes we did. We got it to-go and brought it home to enjoy with my grandparents , which they loved. They had never had it before! What!? Say it ain't so! Sad but true, so L and I remedied that right away.

After our lovely dinner, L and I got dolled up and headed downtown. Our seats were really good, and our anticipation grew.

Oh. My. Word. The first scene was incredible. I got chills twice within the first few notes of the opening song. Wow.

                                                 source
This isn't the best picture, but it was the only one with the elephant, and that was my favorite part. This picture doesn't do it justice either, so just know it was about one zillion times more amazing than this picture shows.

Also, the giraffes were awesome. If I was going to be one of these animals, I would definitely go for giraffe.

                                       source

I know, I'm going on and on about the opening scene, but seriously, it was beyond belief. One last picture, I promise!

                                                source
This was the part that gave me chills, when Rafiki sang those first few notes of the song we all know so well. Also notice here in the background the dancer holding the antelopes. One of the coolest parts was how the actors and dancers used their bodies as part of the prop, since the focus was supposed to be their costume. The antelopes leaped just like the real ones do. Za Zu is really the best example of this {sorry, one more picture!}

                                             source
Obviously it's a guy running around with a bird, but the way he did it was astounding.

If you have the chance to go, go! It will totally be worth it. Even though you know the story and the songs, go, because the costumes and the dancing and the theater setting will blow your mind.

Oh yeah just one minor unrelated thing: SHERLOCK SEASON THREE STARTS FILMING TODAY!

Happy Thanksgiving Back! Or, a crazy crafty week

Anyone catch that line from “You’ve Got Mail”? Anyone? AJ, I know you did. That’s why we’re bosom friends and why I’m going to see you in 8 days! :)
Anywho, it is officially the start of the holiday season! Ok, technically yesterday was the start since it was the first holiday of the season, so let me rephrase. It’s officially Christmastime!!!!!! Holla!
I don’t know about you, but even before this week I’ve been shopping a bit with my shopoholic grandmother, and I’ve actually purchased or made quite a few gifts already this year. So many that I needed to make a list so that I didn’t miss anyone or double up unintentionally.
Does anyone else have that one friend that you never know what to get them, but you know you should get them something because they need to know you love and appreciate them even if you disagree on the fundamentals of life?? Well, I have that friend, and I decided that I would make her something funny…something unusual…something that is slightly awkward but I think her sense of humor is just right for it. I made her a beard. Yes.  A beard. I crocheted it; I did not grow one myself and then give it to her. Yuck times two {one for me growing a beard and one for me giving her that beard}. So I crocheted it, and found that it is like the easiest pattern EVER, and that’s saying a lot because I only pretend to know how to follow patterns, but this one I actually did follow. Phew!
the moral of the story is, since I liked making one beard so much, I wanted to make more. But for whom??? I can’t walk around wearing a crocheted beard-I have a normal-person job. {I should have discovered this pattern while I was in school, like I dyed my hair pink while in school.} But then I thought, boys!!! My friend has a few sons who are not old enough to grow beards; how cute and fun would that be to make beards for her sons! Score!
Ladies and gentlemen, I crocheted 6 beards in less than a week. Bam. That’s a) how easy the pattern is and b) how obsessed I was this week.
Two items of business follow: one the link to the pattern: right here!!! two: a picture. well, as soon as my friend(s) try on their beards and let me take a picture, you’ll see that picture. So gimme a couple weeks. :)

Well, now I only have 2 more gifts that I want to make; however, the vast majority of my yarn is at home-home, so I will have to whip some things out when I get there… speaking of which, THE HOBBIT will be in theaters in 4 weeks. Actually, 3 weeks, 6 days, and just enough hours to get to the midnight showing :D In case you’ve been living under a stupid rock {Harvard Sailing Team reference-for you, stalker sis}, you.tube the trailer and start living your life! Augh!!
Well, it’s lunchtime the day after Thanksgiving- cold turkey, here I come!
PS- I’m grateful for YOU, readers! I know you’re reading this because a) you like me or b) you’re incredibly bored, but either way, I’m happy you’re here!

Confessions of a Pinterest Addict

As I’m sure you know by now, I am just a teensy bit addicted to the wonderful website of Pinterest. It has inspired me to try various recipes and to step outside my crafty comfort zone.

One of my favorite topics to search, though, is the “Prints and Posters” category. It is usually both uplifting and laugh-out-loud funny, and generally cleaner than the “humor” category.

Ok, time to get real.

Do you, fellow Pinners, ever not pin something because it has a swear word in it, even though it is absolutely hysterical? I must confess (hence the title) that I try not to re-pin cuss words, but I still laugh at them and even point my sisters to read them. I guess I just don’t want the negative impressions a curse word brings, so I just show them to my sisters and call it happy.

What do you do?

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

It’s that time…

Time of the day? Time of the week? Of my life?
Whatever.
The time has come for me to stop pinning things on Pinterest and actually do something from that lovely {addicting}, inspiring {addicting}, and fantastical {-ly addicting} website.

Side note: I will try and put in the pictures with a link so you don’t have to guess at what I want to do, and if you don’t want to go to the websites, you don’t have to and you can still be in the loop. I know. You love me. And you love being in the loop. You’re welcome.

Item 1: this mug! You can find the instructions right over here.
Pride & Prejudice is my all time favorite book, and also movie. So it’s fitting that today my Mr. Darcy proposal tea mug came in the mail this afternoon. Is it possible to be in love with a cup? Because I think that’s currently happening right now. I bought it from this lovely Jane Austen inspired etsy shop, Brookish.

Item 2: I want to put this quote {from the fabulous and ever-wise Pooh Bear}

on a mirror like this:

You can find the instructions for the mirror at this very spot.

Item 3: I’m trying to convince my sister to share her button collection so I can make these bobby pins.

Hopefully you can figure out how I’ll be making those… the first step is my sister.

For my “someday”, I want to make the following signs:

Happy May Day!

Holy canoli, Batman! This month is full of goodness! Take a peek:

  • my family arrives in 3 days
  • I graduate in 5 days
  • Master’s Commission groups will be here in 9 days
  • my friend’s baby will be here in 24 days!!!!

All this in the month of May! Woohoo!

Ok, newest obsession: Instagram. Have you tried it? Heard of it? Fell in love with it? Hate its guts with all your might? Tell me what you’re thinking, friends! For my friends on f.acebook, I haven’t figured out how to link my Insta account with f.acebook, and I’m thinking it might have to do with the fact that I took fb off my phone… any ideas?

I finished my paper! So excited! I know it needs a bit of reorganization, but I’m ok with that right now. It will be done. A classmate is going to read it and review it for me, and I will send it in tonight! Then it’s just a final on Thursday and we’re outta here! Praise Jesus!

My friend and I got pedicures on Sunday- so much fun! It was my birthday present to her, and we had a blast! I’m going to try to post a picture… we’ll see how well it goes. Thank God for cameras on phones…
IMG_20120429_235522
Here’s the Insta pic of my pedi :)

I sold my textbooks yesterday, and I made $44 off of ‘em! Probably not what I paid, but I’m thinking that I got rid of them all in the space of a couple hours and I didn’t have to walk too far and now I don’t have to deal with a pile on my desk… let me rephrase that last part. Now I have to deal with one less pile on my desk :)

Got any special May Day plans? I could have gone dancing around a May pole this morning… at 6:30. Yeah. Note the use of the words “could have gone” instead of “went.”

My roomie and I are going to visit her apartment today! It will be her first time seeing it, so that’s exciting. Wish us luck!

Sick Days

I caught a bug over the weekend and have spent the past two days in my room on my bed. And now I have a couple confessions to make.

One: I LOVE SHERLOCK!!!!! BBC has done a marvelous job on remaking a t.v. version of Sherlock Holmes’ adventures, and thank Jesus for online viewing abilities!!!!! Seriously, people, check this series out.

Two: I’m now a Pinterest addict. Yup. My account is less than 24 hours old, and already I’m a junkie. Hi, my name is Bek, and I can’t get off Pinterest. Ha! And from Pinterest has come a revived passion and anticipation for the Hunger Games. Gosh, does March 23rd seem like a forever away??? Yes, yes it does.

But in the mean time, I’m bonding with my new blogger friend Ashley… we’ve been getting to know one another and we’re working on little things to bless each other with. It’s going to be really exciting, but I’m a bit freaking out because a package needs to be in the mail by Friday! Yay, pressure! :)

How has your week been, dear readers? Anything exciting going on in your neck of the woods?

Hunger Games

Um, kinda addicted to this trilogy… thanks a lot, Lola! ;)
hungergames1-3

Best part: they’re making movies! Worst part: have to wait until March
This is the trailer.

March 23rd can’t come soon enough.
